Solo 401(k) vs. SEP-IRA Optimizer

How far can a self-employed filer contribute, and to which vehicle? Prices all three of Solo 401(k), SEP-IRA and SIMPLE IRA against one dated set of IRS limits, names the cap that actually bound each one, and ranks them. The tax year is an input below, not a clock, this page ships the 2026 table only.

Scope & reliance
Tax year tax_year is an input; the node reads no clock. A year with no pinned IRS table is a NO_LIMITS_FOR_TAX_YEAR refusal, never another year's limits. Amounts are integer cents with floor division. Tax savings are contribution × marginal_rate_bp, an identity at a rate you supply, not a projection. Not modelled: the Social Security wage base ($184,500 for 2026, so the true SE rate falls below 15.3% above it); the employer 25% ceiling measured net of the employee deferral; SIMPLE $18,100 small-employer limits and 402(g) aggregation across an outside plan; the $400 net-earnings SE-tax floor; Roth catch-up wage thresholds; and plan administration cost. Draft node, not yet registered.
