What is this? The Instant Payment Limits Reference provides a searchable, filterable, and sortable data table covering transaction limits, settlement speeds, availability, operator fees, and authentication models for nine major A2A payment rails worldwide.

How to use it: Use the search bar and filters to narrow the reference table. Switch to "Compare Rails" mode to select 2–4 rails and generate a side-by-side diff table. All data is embedded in the HTML — no network calls are made.

Important caveats:

  • Limits shown are the published operator or scheme maximums. Individual financial institutions may impose lower limits per participant or account tier.
  • FedNow's $500,000 limit applies per credit transfer message. Participating institutions set their own send/receive limits within that cap.
  • SEPA Instant's €100,000 limit was raised from €100K to €1M for intra-EU transactions under the EU Instant Payments Regulation effective January 2025; some PSPs may still apply the lower legacy limit during the transition period.
  • PIX limits vary by transaction type (P2P, B2B, nocturnal). Nocturnal limit is BRL 1,000.
  • UPI per-transaction limits vary by use case: P2P is ₹1 lakh; some categories (tax, education, capital markets) allow up to ₹5 lakh.
  • All USD-equivalent figures are approximate based on mid-market rates and for directional comparison only.

Data sources: Federal Reserve (FedNow), The Clearing House (RTP), NACHA, Pay.UK (Faster Payments), European Payments Council (SEPA Instant), Banco Central do Brasil (PIX), NPCI (UPI), Australian Payments Network (PayID), Bank of Japan / Zengin-Net. See the "Sources & Notes" tab for links.

Methodology: All data in this reference tool was sourced from official operator documentation, scheme rulebooks, central bank publications, and regulatory guidance as of Q2 2026. Dollar-equivalent figures for non-USD rails use indicative mid-market exchange rates for directional comparison only.

Limit categories:

  • Max per Transaction: The scheme/operator ceiling per individual credit transfer message.
  • Daily Limit: Where published by the operator. Institution-level daily limits may differ and are typically lower.
  • Operator Fee: The interbank/scheme fee charged by the rail operator, not the end-user fee charged by a bank or PSP.
